It's a rare occasion that I shoot for pleasure. I am not one to run a bunch of shots though my camera if they don't have an end purpose.
Though I do love street photography.
One of my passions is to watch people and capture them unaware. But unfortunately, these days, in such a litigious society it has more complications than I want to overcome. So I photograph my friends, when the light is right and I can carry a light camera, lens and no flash.
Commando so to speak.
Last Saturday, the weekend before Halloween, was the annual Krewe of Boo parade. It's kind of a locals thing. We don't often have that pleasure. Usually our time is spent trying to circumvent traffic blockades en route to work.
Over the following four posts I will share some of the shots I grabbed. Rarely do I discuss my equipment but I will say the lens was a cheap $200 model so I had very low expections for and it surprised the heck out of me.
The Canon 40mm STM 2.8 is quite the surprising lens. It is sharp as a tack. Dang near as sharp as my $1600 50mm 1.2L. Just some details for the photographers out there looking for a lightweight, quality lens for street work. The negative is it's slow focusing in low light and has an inability to catch focus in darker conditions, so be prepared. In the conditions I work in I need fast so testing it on the parade was quite helpful.
